The Association of BRICS Business Schools (ABBS), a common forum for management institutions from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, was constituted last week. This first of its kind consortium is headed by J. Philip, president of Xavier Institute of Management Education.
An agreement to form the Association was discussed and signed by a group of business schools from the five countries in the course of a two-day conference on January 30-31, 2009 at the campus.
It is for the first time that BRICS countries, which are expected to be dominant economic powers on the global scene in the next few years, have set up an association to promote cooperation and academic exchanges and research projects among themselves.
More business schools from member-countries are expected to join the Association in future.
The initiative for the founding of the association had come from XIME, Bangalore, at the 'BRICS Conclave' that it had hosted in January. Follow-up conferences were hosted in Shanghai last April and Moscow last October.
Following the conclusion of the agreement forming ABBS, the founding members elected J. Philip, president of XIME, the first president of the international body. The four vice-presidents are Erming Xu of China, Alexey M. Lyalin of Russia, Sergio Franklin Quintela of Brazil and Anesh M. Singh of South Africa.
