The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) will be starting a new programme in management called the One-year Full-time Post Graduate Programme in Management.According to information shared by IIM-B with MBAUniverse.com, the inaugural programme will commence from April 1, 2009. It is aimed at mid-career executives, and is similar to the programmes offered by IIM-A (PGPX), IIM-C (PGPEX) and IIM-L (IMPX). Admissions to the course will be based on multiple criteria, informs IIM-B. The candidate needs to be a graduate in any discipline with a minimum of 5 years of work experience. Selection will also factor in a valid GMAT score, and a statement of purpose. The final component would be the interview where the quality of work experience would also be evaluated. IIM-B says the programme will be different from its two-year Post Graduate Programme. Says IIM-B, "For one, the programme would be inter-disciplinary in nature, as opposed to the functional one used for the PGP. Pedagogy used will be interactive, and focus on learning from peers. Sixty percent of the course would be core subjects; the balance forty being electives. A feature of the would be the introduction of seminars (15 to 20) on general subjects by leading practitioners in the areas of Philosophy, History, Science, Literature etc aimed at sensitizing the students about, and to, the society." The students would also have to do project towards the end of the programme bringing into focus its multi-disciplinary nature. The students will also undertake a three-week international study tour; to understand the way business is done in BRIC and African nations. The emphasis is on areas where growth in business is likely to occur the emerging economies. IIM-B will provide placement assistance to all graduating students. There would be an extended placement period, rather than a "placement week" as followed for PGP.
