By the My MBA Career Content Team Find Top MBA Degree Programs Volunteers working under the Small Business Administration (SBA) are helping MBAs and entrepreneurs by providing them with team-mentoring services.
The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), a branch of the SBA, operates in the Greater Cincinnati area and is working with Lee Hecht Harrison and Stifel Nicolaus, a talent solutions company and investment firm, respectively. Their team mentoring sessions are held in the Chase Towers.
"This unique concept in counseling small business owners is typical of the creative, out-of-box thinking that makes the Cincinnati SCORE chapter one of the most effective in our nation," said Ken Yancey to Cincinnati.com. Yancey is SCORE's national chairman.
Yancey's nonprofit group is comprised of 10,500 volunteers who have retired from their careers. Some of these men and women are former executives who hold MBA degrees and are now eager to help young businessmen and women like those in Cincinnati.
The team-mentoring sessions normally last about 90 minutes and participants are often assigned homework to complete before the next meeting.
SCORE's headquarters are in downtown Cincinnati, but its services are available to everyone in southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and parts of Indiana. The Cincinnati chapter has estimated it helped launch 400 startups in 2008.
If you're interested in starting a business in Cincinnati or elsewhere, SCORE is here to help. Get the know-how by enrolling in an MBA program today.
