Edward Johnson of Crystal, Minnesota launched X-Government Cars in 1998. In spite of the recession and its devastating impact on the auto industry Johnson is doing well, according to Finance and Commerce, an online business daily in the North Star State.

Johnson's strategy is simple and effective, as his business buys old government cars for about $3,000, restores them and then sells them at a profit.

"It's easy for us because our clients come in and know what they're looking for," Johnson told the website. "Ford made a good product in '92 and now it's 2009 and they haven't changed a thing about the Crown Vics. They're easy to maintain, safe and reliable."

X-Government Cars also helps families struggling as a result of the recession, according to Johnson's website. The entrepreneur's initiative, entitled "Drive to Thrive," accepts donations of either money or vehicles. The money is used to restore the vehicles, which are in turn given to needy families.
