Institute Of Management Technology - Convocation

Expert Suggestions on Preparation for Computer Based CAT-09

Institute of Management Technology Convocation 2007 was organized on 18 March 2008 at Ghaziabad for the graduating batches of the Ghaziabad and Nagpur Campuses.
Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, Chairman of the Board & Chief Mentor of Infosys Technologies was the Guest of Honour and delivered the Convocation Address. The President of the Board of Directors of the institute, Mr. Kamal Nath, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, awarded the post-graduate degrees and diplomas.

The Distinguished Alumni Award instituted in 2005 by IMT, Ghaziabad was awarded to Mr. Subhinder Singh Prem, Managing Director, Reebok India. The award had earlier gone to Mr. Rajeev Karwal, Mr. Prasoon Joshi, Mr. Ravi Soni, Mr. Arshi Narang and Mr. Abhijeet Dutta Ray.

In his keynote address, Mr. Narayana Murthy urged the students to 'identify as Indians first and foremost, and to rise above affiliations to religions, castes, and regions; put in the interest of the nation ahead of personal interests; embrace a disciplined way of pursuing goals; and be ready to work hard, without cutting corners, even if it means making short-term sacrifices for long-term success'.

Mr. Kamal Nath exhorted the graduating students to become 'leaders in every sense; and that in achieving their own success, they fulfill the dreams that the people of this country have dared to dream - dreams which have already begun to take shape'.

The ceremony was marked by a befitting solemnity. Dr. B. S. Sahay, Director, IMT Ghaziabad and Dr. Anwar Ali, Director, IMT Nagpur, presented the annual reports of the two campuses and enumerated the significant achievements made by the institute.

In his annual report, the Director, IMT Ghaziabad, Dr. B. S. Sahay, highlighted the progress made by the institute in the last year and the high standing it has earned for academic excellence, research contributions, executive development and industry
interface. He gave the graduating students the mantra of dreaming big, thinking big and doing big for the nation and the world at large, and urged them to contribute to the progress of India and to take pride in playing a role in the nation's success.

Director, IMT Nagpur, Prof. Anwar Ali, in his annual report spoke of the strides taken by IMT Nagpur and the growth of the campus in terms of infrastructure, intellectual capital, and international linkages. He urged the graduating batch to carry the values and never-ending thirst for knowledge instilled by the institution into their professional lives.

At the solemn and impressive ceremony attended by the IMT fraternity and eminent personalities from academic, industry, government and media, post-graduate degrees and diplomas were awarded to over 700 students from the Ghaziabad and Nagpur campuses. The graduating students are placed in some of the best companies.

For the Ghaziabad campus, the highlight of the placement was the substantial increase in the number of international offers. Top-ranking companies from diverse sectors such as FMCG, Telecom, IT & ITES, FI, Manufacturing, KPO and others participated in the placements. The overall average salary for the PGDM programme at Placement 2008 is Rs. 10.15 Lakhs p.a., with the highest salary being Rs. 17 Lakhs.

The PGDM (Executive) students also, once again, got excellent placement in diverse sectors such as Consulting, Projects, Pharma, IT, Real Estate, Airlines. The lateral recruitment process has ensured that students get credit and leverage for their
relevant work experience. The average lateral salary was Rs. 10 Lakhs p. a. while the highest salary was Rs. 22 Lakhs.

IMT Ghaziabad witnessed an increase in number of international offers this year. The highest domestic salary offered this year was Rs. 17 Lakhs offered by Abhishek Industries - Trident Group whereas the highest international package offered was $ 85,000 offered by Olam International, Singapore.

Multiple offers were allowed to all the students this year. IMT Ghaziabad changed the process last year itself, this year almost all students had more than one offer to choose from. This is proved by the fact that end of placements, there were 522 offers for 340 students, (which is in fact more than double the number of offers many of the similar campuses have received). Moreover, the lateral candidates could hold a maximum of 5 offers till accepting one.

The convocation programme concluded with the buoyant students celebrating their graduation from one of the top business schools in India and looking ahead to emulating the successes of the institute's eminent alumni who are today in positions of great responsibility all across India and the world.
