Questions related to Group Discussion / Group Exercise
Q. Was Group Discussion
or Group Exercise part of selection process?
A. Yes.
Q. The duration of
Group Discussion, size of the group, number of panelists, etc.
A. We were given a time limit of 15 minutes among the group of 12
candidates. There were three panelists on the judging panel.
Q. What was your Group
Discussion topic?
A. Obscenity on Television & Movies (Can't recall the exact topic).
Q. Tell us about your
Group Discussion experience?
A. It was peaceful, informative and very well-conducted. Rather I would
say, it was not on expected lines (I expected a lot of noise in the fish-market
kind situation). The time limit was strictly followed.
Q. How was the
environment during discussion?
A. The environment during Group Discussion was to my comfort levels,
candidates had pretty good ideas on the topic. Lot of data and historical
precedents came up during the discussion. There were divergent viewpoints.
Q. Describe your
impression of the your team members and overall Group Discussion process ?
A. Three candidates out of 12 members of my group were selected (out of
total 4 selected that day). The team members consisted of people with good deal
of experience, engineers, arts graduates and commerce graduates. Also people
from across the country were in my group, therefore, it made a good group with
high success rate. Now also the same people are among the toppers in their
chosen specialization.
Q. Some handy tips that
would be of great help.
A. Be confident, because you are good enough. Be thorough in your
knowledge with data to back up your point. This helps a lot during Group
Discussion and Interview (no one can question correct data). Be clear about the
goal in life and why you want to do MBA. Clarity of thought is one thing which
is always tested during the selection process. To top it all, verbal skills have
to be at the comfortable level. All B-schools expect a good level of fluency in
English from the candidates.
Q. Were there any set
norms of Group Discussion?
A.The group size and time allowed for each group were fixed. We were
warned against any fish-market situation beforehand. The trouble makers, rather
the whole group would have been disqualified in that case.
