Interview-related Questions
Q. Date and location of
Interview. Were you given the option to choose? Was the interview date fixed or
rescheduled couple of times?
A. May 24, 2006 at ITM, Navi Mumbai. I filled-up the form at a very later
stage, therefore, I could not be given any choice for interview location.
Otherwise, options are available for interview canters. The date once fixed was
rigid and they did not change it even on my request.
Q. Can you tell us
about the panel that interviewed you?
A. I don't know much about the interview panel, we were just told their
names which I don't remember.
Q. How long was your
interview?
A. My interview lasted for about 20 minutes.
Q. What was the first
question? The most interesting question? The most difficult question?
A. The first question was, "We can't understand why an arts graduate
wants to do MBA?" The first question turned out to be the most interesting one
also. The most difficult question turned out to be, "How does political science,
agriculture and globalization affect the economy of a country where all three
are not very strong or are in their starting phase?"
Q. How did you prepare
for the interview? While facing the panel, were you confident, did you feel
prepared?
A. I did not prepare much for the interview. I just browsed through the
site of the college, the courses they offer, the campuses they have and the
Chairman's profile. I was confident and felt well prepared for most of the
questions.
Q. Was any feedback
given to you? What feedback did you receive from the panel at the end of
session?
A. I got the feedback after I got selected. It was a brief insight into
the kind of candidates they like to select. The interviewer told me that I
appeared confident to him. While I could answer many of the questions, still
they expected me to speak with more clarity in voice and thought.
Q. Did work experience
help in getting the choice of your school and also in dealing with the
curriculum?
A. Yes, the work experience helped me a lot in dealing with the intricate
challenges posed by the MBA curriculum. It helped me most in understanding
people and their mindsets.
Q. Getting into and
sailing through a B-school is easier for a Science Graduate than for someone
from Humanities background. Your comments please.
A. The above statement is true to some extent because a science graduate
is thought to have better analytical and quantitative skills. Humanities
background students have to do a lot of extra out of syllabus reading to get
themselves to the same level. But they are better at people skills, without
which survival in any business area is difficult.
Q. Will an MBA degree
add on to your existing career plan or did you decide to switch/start a career
in management?
A. I decide to switch to a career in management.
Q. Why did you decide
to do MBA from this school?
A.ITM's PGDBM course is always well-received throughout India. The
students come from diverse backgrounds, regions and experiences. This helps us
in developing a well-rounded personality. Moreover, the placement record of the
institute is pretty good.
Q. Were you able to get
the school of your choice or did you compromise and opted for the best option
that was open/available for you?
A. Taking admission at ITM was a bit of compromise as I knew that the
location of the college in Navi Mumbai poses some challenges vis--vis the
industry interface. People from the industry donot like to travel that far to
come to our college. I must appreciate the college management that they have
managed all of this very well.
