Interview-related Questions
Q. Date and location of
Interview. Were you given the option to choose? Was the interview date fixed or
re-scheduled couple of times.
A. We had the option to choose the location of the interview among the
listed cities at the time of sending the admit card of interview back to the
institute. Interview date was fixed after that. It was never changed or
re-schduleded.
Q. Can you tell us
about the panel that interviewed you?
A. I was interviewd by a panel comprising two people. One was a Faculty
Head from Welingkar's and other one was the VP Marketing from one of the
companies, whose name I do not recollect.
Q. How long was your
interview?
A. I believe my interview lasted for around 25-30 minutes.
Q. What was the first
question? The most interesting question? The most difficult question?
A. The first question was, "Please introduce yourself."
The most interesting question was about my home-town Ranchi. They asked me, "You
not only live at Dhoni's place but also resemble him. Are you in anyway related
to him?" I politely smiled and acknowledged the complement.
The most difficult question was related to the areas in which I have been
working. They asked about the best achievement so far at my workplace and the
reward that I got. Since I was working in a garment export company, I had faced
many challenges, so I described many occasions where my work was rewarded, and I
believe that they were very happy with my answers with practical descriptions,
and finally I was selected with high marks.
Q. How did you prepare
for the interview? While facing the panel, were you confident, did you feel
prepared?
A. I started preparing for the interview 15 days prior to the PI. I
refreshed my subjects of honours degree. I also worked on my hobbies and
interests which I had filled at the time of applying to the institute. And above
all, I was very much sure that they will grill me on my work experience and the
questions would be more on that.
Q. Was any feedback
given to you? What feedback did you receive from the panel at the end of
session?
A. They were very happy and appreciated the way I handled questions. They
were very impressed when I stood up to draw figures and statistics of my work on
the blackboard. They said very few would have dared to do so.
Q. Did work experience
help in getting the choice of your school and also in dealing with the
curriculum?
A. Well, I believe it is very important to have 1-2 years of work
experience before going to do an MBA. This is because it is purely a management
course, and it is really helpful if we already know the functions of companies
and have some experience. Also management education prepares us in different
fields, so if we have some experience, we can choose the right areas and work
accordingly.
Q. Getting into and
sailing through a B-school is easier for a Science graduate than for someone
from Humanities background. Your comments please.
A. I do not think so. Anyone having studied Science till 10th standard
can click in any MBA exam. You do not need the practicals and formulas of
science to click in MBA exams. What you really need is determination and
patience to sit and solve the sets. Practice is the key rather than from which
background we are from.
Q. Will an MBA degree
add on to your existing career plan or did you decide to switch/start a career
in management?
A. Probably I would try to add-on to my existing career.
Q. Why did you decide
to do MBA from this school?
A. Welingkar's is one of the best business schools in the country. It has
one of the best faculty and the infrastructure is excellent. The placement
record over the years has also improved a lot and is on the rise.
Q. Were you able to get
the school of your choice or did you compromise and opted for the best option
that was open/available for you?
A. I was aiming for the IIMs, but as I was not selected, I chose the best
among the options available to me.
