Questions related to Group Discussion / Group Exercise
Q. Was Group Discussion
or Group Exercise part of selection process?
A. Yes.
Q. The duration of
Group Discussion, size of the group, number of panelists, etc.
A. The duration of the Group Discussion was about 12 minutes, with a
minute for thinking, ten minutes for discussion and a minute to conclude. We
were 9 candidates and two panelists.
Q. What was your Group
Discussion topic?
A. The topic of the Group Discussion I participated in was "Should There
be Private Universities in India?"
Q. Tell us about your
Group Discussion experience?
A. The Group Discussion was quite peaceful and almost everyone spoke, but
I think the quality of the discussion was of a good level. I came in only thrice
with three solid points and listened attentively for most part of the Group
Discussion. Finally, each of us was asked to summarise in one crisp sentence. I
was confident of a good score in the Group Discussion.
Q. How was the
environment during discussion?
A. Barring a few heated verbal duels, the environment was overall
peaceful. Most participants were active listeners which helped the overall
quality of the Group Discussion.
Q. Describe your
impression of the your team members and overall Group Discussion process ?
A. Quite a few of the participants were very well-read and conversant
with the current affairs. The process was a fair one and everyone had no special
advantage / disadvantage of position.
Q. Some handy tips that
could be of great help.
A. During the Group Discussion, the most important thing is to come
across as a patient listener and an active and balanced speaker. Avoid cutting
as far as possible and speak forth very clearly and in a sufficiently loud tone.
Keep noting down important points that the group holds on to during the Group
Discussion, for final summarization. Do not hesitate to bring back the Group
Discussion on track if you feel it is digressing.
Most importantly, make sure you have understood the topic very well. Start only
if you are confident of making a very good impression, else wait for someone and
take a cue from his/her point.
Q. Were there any set
norms of Group Discussion?
A. No, there were no set norms.
