Questions related to Pre-MBA Preparation
Q. When did you start
your preparation?
A. I started my preparation for BIM, Bangalore only one and half month
prior to the entrance test. But as I had earlier gone for coaching, it was
easier to get a grip on the subjects. I had started my coaching earlier, much
before the month of November itself for the SNAP exam and for the FMS exam from
May, and later my preparation for BIM Aptitude Test.
Q. How many months and
how many hours daily did you devote for preparation to entrance procedures?
A. I had to concentrate on CA and CWA first, so I had put in 3 hours for
the MBA entrance. However, on Sundays I had actually put in less number of hours
as compared to the weekdays, since I had my CA and CWA classes piled-up on
weekends.
Q. Did you take up some
coaching institute or you believed in self-study?
A. The moment I took up preparation for an MBA course, I did believe in
coaching institute and in self-study as well. Coaching institutes can show you
the path and explain to you the things you need, but self-study did help me a
lot.
Q. Can you tell us
which are your favorite books, books that you used for preparing for entrance,
books for self-development and books for pure relaxation?
A. Initially, I relied on the Material given by the coaching institute
but then I purchased the Trishnas for Quant as I was weak in Quant. I read
various books for self-development and a variety of topics in business. 22
Immutable Laws of Marketing and Philip Kotler's were my first books on marketing
and they were awesome. For pure relaxation, I had the website -
www.wikipedia.org - as business quizzing relaxed me.
Q. What was your
experience with coaching? Some feedback about faculty, coaching material and
your overall experience with particular center.
A. The coaching institute changed my outlook towards professionalism. The
people who came there for coaching were professionals and the coaching center
was filled with bright people and I used to be left behind many a times. The
faculty provided excellent guidance and were even ready to work extra hours to
make sure we compete. The coaching institute had people from IITs and IIMs and I
liked the seminars and discussions even better as they gave me more insights
into the entrance preparation. TIME had many centers in Hyderabad and perhaps
the leading ones too. The center catered to my flexible timings as whenever I
missed a class, I could attend the same class in another center and that was a
boon. The overall experience was good, and coming to the study material, it was
very handy, user-friendly and thought-provoking indeed.
Q. What are the others
books & tests which you used for your MBA preparation? (give name of book &
authors for each subject area)
A. Trishna - Quant
Michael Swan - Verbal Ability
Norman Lewis - Word Power Made Easy
Q. What was your
strongest and weakest area while preparing for MBA coaching?
A. My Strongest was Verbal and RC, and the weakest was Quant.
Q. Some tips which you
used for mastering Quant, RC, etc.
A. For Quant, I had made a plan to work through the material but never
completed it, I just used to speed up the calculations. For RC, as I was a
voracious reader so it wasnt an issue. I had got some tips on Quant and RC from
Orkut and Rediff, and they did benefit me.
Q. How much time did
you put for MBA preparation everyday? How did you manage this while working full
time?
A. As mentioned earlier, I had put in 3 hours everyday but on weekends I
had put less as compared to the weekends.
Q. Which all Exams and
B-schools you applied to?
A. SNAP Test, FMS Test, BIM Aptitude Test.
Q. Your present
B-school and course.
A. Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Bangalore, and the program is
PGDBM.
Q. What procedures your
school has for admission to its MBA program?
A. Written Test, Psychometric Test, Group Discussion and Personal
Interview.
Q. What is the range of
score for students who are admitted?
A. People who took the BIM Aptitude Test were not given their scores but
the people who applied through the CAT scores, the score was ranging from 80-85.
We also have some people in the 77/78/79 category. There was no elimination
round and the scores of the Written Test / CAT, Psychometric Test, GD and PI
were added.
Q. What was your score?
A. As mentioned earlier, for the people who appeared for BIM Aptitude
Test, the scores were kept confidential and not mentioned.
