Interview-related Questions
Q. Date and location of
Interview. Were you given the option to choose? Was the interview date fixed or
re-scheduled couple of times?
A. On 13-3-07 at Chennai. I was not given an option as I never asked for
it, but I heard that many students got their dates re-scheduled and the
institute was very flexible if there was a good reason for a change.
Q. Can you tell us
about the panel that interviewed you?
A. The panel had four members, two were faculty and two were from the
industry.
Q. How long was your
interview?
A. Twenty minutes.
Q. What was the first
question? The most interesting question? The most difficult question?
A. Tell us something about yourself.
Why would you not join IFMR, if selected? If there is any such reason (in case I
would not join).
A few questions on past education were seeming to be difficult as it was a long
time ago that I had studied them.
Q. How did you prepare
for the interview? While facing the panel, were you confident, did you feel
prepared?
A. To prepare for the interview, I used to read newspapers every day,
also business dailies and magazines. And for self-analysis, I spent time on
thinking and understanding a few questions like, 'why I wished to do an MBA',
'what was my goal in life (long-term and short-term)', 'why did I chose that
particular B-school'. Other than all these, I spent time on SWOT analysis, I
also underwent mock interviews at IMS to become more confident. I was quiet
confident while I faced the panel, but for a few questions, I sure felt that I
was not prepared, but I managed to answer them the best way I could.
Q. Was any feedback
given to you? What feedback did you receive from the panel at the end of
session?
A. The panel asked me whether I was comfortable and also gave me the
right perspective and answers of a few questions which I was confused about.
They asked me which other B-schools I had applied to, just to know what was the
perspective of students about IFMR with regard to other B-schools. There was not
much feedback about my interview except that they wished me all the best and
said well-done.
Q. Did work experience
help in getting the choice of your school and also in dealing with the
curriculum?
A. I had no work experience.
Q. Getting into and
sailing through a B-school is easier for a Science Graduate than for someone
from Humanities background. Your comments please.
A. I can say that getting into a B-School may be easy for a Science
Graduate as compared to others, as they have an upper-hand with regard to CAT
and other entrance tests as they are well-equipped with Quantitative Ability and
other sections. With regards to sailing through a B-school, I feel that everyone
is equal in the classroom as the concepts and the methodology of study is
completely different in a B-school when compared to other forms of study.
Q. Will an MBA degree
add on to your existing career plan or did you decide to switch/start a career
in management?
A. Yes, an MBA will definitely add to my career plan, as I feel unless I
have the minimum skills and knowledge, I cannot start-up my career easily and
cannot progress well.
Q. Why did you decide
to do MBA from this school?
A. I wanted to specialize in Finance and IFMR is one of the best
institutions in Finance, this was one of the reasons. IFMR is a rapidly growing
institution in terms of quality with core strength in research and has excellent
infrastructure, so I felt that IFMR was the best option for me.
Q. Were you able to get
the school of your choice or did you compromise and opted for the best option
that was open/available for you?
A. I had planned to join TAPMI before joining IFMR, but I was not able to
make it to TAPMI, so from the options available to me, I felt IFMR was the best
one, and I am really happy with my decision today.
