Q. When did you start
your preparation?
A. I started preparation from March 2006 for CAT 2006.
Q. How many months and
how many hours daily did you devote for preparation to entrance procedures?
A. I devoted 8 months at an average of 3 hours daily for the preparation.
Q. Did you take up some
coaching institute or you believed in self-study?
A. Yes, I joined Erudite Educational Center Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata Centre,
for the coaching.
Q. Can you tell us
which are your favorite books, books that you used for preparing for entrance,
books for self-development and books for pure relaxation?
A. I followed Quantitative Aptitude by Arun Sharma, Quicker Maths by M.
Tyra.
For DI, I solved the puzzles from the Internet and the material provided by the
Institute.
For RC, I used the editorials of Times of India, Nesfiled Grammar.
For self development, I read Who Moved My Cheese, Lateral Thinking.
For relaxation, I read Sherlock Holmes and watched movies.
Q. What was your
experience with coaching?
A. The Institute had good and experienced faculty members who were always
available to guide and motivate the students. The short cut techniques help a
lot during the exams. The course materials were updated as per the changing
pattern. The center provided a good environment for the self as well as group
studies.
Q. What are the others
books & tests which you used for your MBA preparation?
A. I took the Mock CAT conducted by TIME for the preparation. This helped
me get a variety of question patterns. So the test conducted by TIME and Erudite
helped me have enough material for the preparation.
Q. What was your
strongest and weakest area while preparing for MBA coaching?
A. My strongest area was Data Interpretation and the weakest area was
Verbal Ability.
Q. Some tips which you
used for mastering Quant, RC, etc.
A. Solving Quantitative Aptitude by Arun Sharma gave me a huge confidence
for solving any type of question. For RC, I tried making questions out of the
editorials of Times of India and solved them after five days, this helped me to
understand the type of questions and the answers expected.
Q. How much time did
you put for MBA preparation everyday? How did you manage this while working full
time?
A. I spent on an average 3 hours daily. This time was spent at night from
9 pm to 12 pm after taking rest of 1 hour after returning from my work.
Q. Which all Exams and
B-schools you applied to?
A. I applied to IIMs, XLRI, XIMB, SIBM, MDI, FMS, IIFT and NMIMS.
So I took CAT, XAT, FMS, IIFT, SNAP and NMAT.
Q. Your present
B-school and course.
A. I am now in NMIMS-Mumbai doing my MBA full-time core programme.
Q. What procedures your
school has for admission to its MBA program?
A. They have their own exam - NMAT (200 marks) - which consists of Q.A.,
Verbal Ability, D.I. and General Awareness. Then they have computer-based test (CBT)
(35 marks) for the shortlisted students (2500). This was an online aptitude
test. Then there was a GD (25 marks) and Interview (25 Marks). Rest 15 marks
were given for full-time work experience (after graduation).
Q. What is the range of
score for students who are admitted?
A. NMAT Ranks from 1 to 400 are selected for the MBA core programme.
NMAT Ranks from 401 upwards are offered sectoral programmes (MBA in Banking /
Capital Market / Retail / Global / Pharma / Services).
Q. What was your score?
A. My score was 136.25 and rank was 129.
