Q. Was Group Discussion
or Group Exercise part of selection process?
A. Group Discussion was a part of selection process.
Q. The duration of
Group Discussion, size of the group, number of panelists, etc.
A. The Group Discussion was for 20 minutes, 2 minutes to think and then
18 minutes to discuss. The group was of the 12 candidates and there were 2 panel
members.
Q. What was your Group
Discussion topic?
A. The topic was "Should Companies like Wal-Mart be allowed in the Retail
Market of India?"
Q. Tell us about your
Group Discussion experience.
A. This was a current topic of discussion in the newspapers at that point
of time. Everyone had lot to speak. The point that everyone concluded was that
the companies should be allowed with some restriction imposed by the government.
Q. How was the
environment during discussion?
A. The Group Discussion was a fish market during the major part of
discussion. At the end, we decided that each one should conclude one after
another.
Q. Describe your
impression of the your team members and overall Group Discussion process.
A. I knew around 3 of the 12 member beforehand, as I had met them either
at the coaching institute or at the test center. Each one had lot to contribute,
so each one tried to cut the other during the discussion. This resulted in a
fish market scenario. At one point of time, I saw one of the panel members
closing his ear. All the members were well prepared for the topics.
Q. Some handy tips that
would be of great help.
A. Don't be a part of fish market. In case you get struck in one, try to
be a monitor to control the Group Discussion and bring some decorum.
Q. Were there any set
norms of Group Discussion?
A. No, there were no such set norms but they clearly specified the marks
they allotted for various parameters. Like the leadership skill, team player,
listening ability, and so on.
