Questions related to Pre-MBA Preparation
Q. How many months and
how many hours daily did you devote for preparation to entrance procedures?
A. I started preparing for CAT a year in advance (November of the
previous year). Since I started out pretty early, I did it slowly and didn't
devote a lot of time. I attended weekend classes and just looked at the maths
formulas before attending classes. Meanwhile, I spent a lot of time reading
stuff. I didn't have any specific monthly / daily schedule as I started out
pretty early and was comfortable with the basic concepts.
Q. Did you take up some
coaching institute or you believed in self-study?
A. I joined a coaching institute (IMS). They made my life easier. The
most important help that they gave was exposing me to the kind of questions that
are asked during CAT.
Q. Can you tell us
which are your favorite books, books that you used for preparing for entrance,
books for self-development and books for pure relaxation?
A. Read any book that you can lay your hands on - from fiction to
autobiography to religion to politics... The list is endless. It is important to
enjoy reading and so one must read subjects that one finds stimulating.
Q. What was your
experience with coaching? Some feedback about faculty, coaching material and
your overall experience with particular center.
A. The materials and the mock-tests that the institute gave were very
good. I didn't bother much with the faculty. We had our share of good and bad
faculty at the coaching centre.
Q. What are the others
books and tests which you used for your MBA preparation?
A. I just used the materials that were given by the institute, and if I
didn't understand any quant concept, then I would refer my Class 10th Maths
book.
Q. What was your
strongest and weakest area while preparing for MBA coaching?
A. I was equally good in all the 3 sections. But my achilles' heal
in quant was Probability.
Q. Some tips which you
used for mastering Quant, RC, etc.
A. I got my basic concepts in quant pretty clear and also tried to learn
the multiplication tables by-heart (which helps in calculations). Read a lot for
improving RC. It is imperative that one has a very good reading speed if one has
to do well in RC.
Q. Which all Exams and
B-schools you applied to?
A. CAT - IIMs.
Q. Your present
B-school and course.
A. IIM Kozhikode. I had got 5 calls - B, C, L, K, I and converted 3 of
them - L, K, I.
Q. What procedures your
school has for admission to its MBA program?
A. GD followed by Interview.
Q. What is the range of
score for students who are admitted?
A. Not sure.
Q. What was your score?
A. CAT - 99.45 percentile.
