The Typical Curriculum of an Online MBA Program
Before deciding on an online MBA Hospitality program, students should take the time to learn as much as they can about the institution they are considering. This includes investigating their history, accreditation, instructors, delivery format and the curriculum to determine if it meets your career objectives. The typical curriculum consists of approximately 45 credit hours, including core, required and concentration courses. Most online MBA in Hospitality curriculums will cover many of the following subjects:
- Management Theories and Practices: This course will provide students with an understanding of the history, practice and current trends in hospitality management. Students will study topics that may include management processes and systems, delegation, motivation, evaluation training and leadership.
- Personnel Training and Development: The focus is on how to design an atmosphere conducive to learning and motivating change in the workplace setting. Students will look at various components of training systems and their relationship to the hospitality industry, including needs evaluations, instructional models, learning and transfer, delivery techniques and assessment.
- Operations Analysis: Study focuses on analyzing business and financial reports that are common in hospitality operations and the preparation and analysis of profit and loss statements.
- Hospitality Information Systems: Students will study the calculated use of computer information systems and software in the hospitality and tourism industry. The course focuses on advance strategic planning for controlling technology and information systems. There is also a review of the implementation of technology for conducting feasibility studies and financial forecasting.
- Applied Research Methods in Hospitality Management: Students are schooled in data techniques and analytical methods required for pioneering innovative directions in the hospitality field. This course looks at the use of standard statistical and analytical tools, such as factor and cluster analysis, focus groups, surveys and modeling techniques.
