Here is my latest blog entry written in the middle of the night under a small lamp with a view on the autumn trees, which might explain my 'emotional' topic. After finishing my first assignment in Dynamics of Management, I already had the impression that the decision to sign up for an MBA will also mean sacrificing most of my freetime. But I still do not question my decision. As post-assignment equals pre-assigment (because one follows another) I have now started writing about Managing People and Performances. Although not the most important topic which is covered in this subject, however, for me definitely most exciting was the one covering the impact of emotional intelligence on business performance: According to common literature, emotional intelligence consists of four capabilities: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and social skills. There have been various studies about different management styles, and though some of these styles have been proven to be successful, in the end it turned out that the most successful managers were the ones with a high EQ. To cut it short, the underlying message is 'No matter how much you study theories, figures and processes, you have to have emotional intelligence in order to be successful!' And that is exactly what I have discovered an MBA is about: learning about business management is important, but learning about yourself, getting to know yourself and developing yourself is much more important and - if taken seriously - this study is something that lasts very long, if not forever. |
