Questions related to Pre-MBA Preparation
Q. How many months and
how many hours daily did you devote for preparation to entrance procedures?
A. It is not about hours and months, it is about consistency. You should
not let your learning curve tilt downwards. Do atleast 5-10 questions of any
part (DI, Quant, English) daily. This would provide the required momentum and
rest is due assured with time.
Q. Did you take up some
coaching institute or you believed in self-study?
A. Yes, a mentor is definitely required and I joined IMS, CP for my
coaching needs. Moreover, I appeared for any free sample tests offered by any
institute on a national or city level.
Q. Can you tell us
which are your favorite books - books that you used for preparing for entrance,
books for self-development and books for pure relaxation?
A. To be very frank, I don't like reading books. I just completed my
coaching packages, and to keep myself updated, I read various business magazines
and ET daily.
Q. When did you start
your preparation?
A. After my fifth semester exams, I joined the coaching institute and
started my preparation in November'04.
Q. What was your
experience with coaching? Some feedback about faculty, coaching material and
your overall experience with particular center?
A. You can find all kinds of students in a batch. It hardly matters which
batch you are into, your self study and your consistency matters. And any doubts
that arise can be cleared by any faculty available at the center.
Q. What are the others
books and tests which you used for your MBA preparation?
A. Norman Lewis - English.
And we friends interchanged various tests provided by our institutes, this
provided sufficient material to practice.
Q. What was your
strongest and weakest area while preparing for MBA coaching?
A. Quant and DI were always my strong areas, RC was fine, but vocabulary
and other English portions were a bit lousy.
Q. Some tips which you
used for mastering Quant, RC, etc.
A. Nothing as such but practicing more and more questions and not
sticking to a question in exam and moving on is the key.
Q. How much time did
you put for MBA preparation everyday ? How did you manage this while working
full time?
A. First, I wasn't working but had to attend a regular college because
mine was a professional course. As I pointed out earlier, consistently
practicing at least 10-15 questions each day for a year is more than enough.
Q. Which all Exams and
B-schools you applied to?
A. I applied for CAT (IIMs), XAT, SNAP, NMIMS, FMS, MBE (Delhi
University), GBO (SRCC), DSE, ICFAI.
I got calls from NMIMS, BIM, FORE, SIBM, SCMHRD, GBO, MBE, DSE, ICFAI and
others.
Q. Your present
B-school and course.
A. Fore School of Management, Delhi.
Q. What procedures your
school has for admission to its MBA program?
A. CAT selection, and then GD and PI.
Q. What is the range of
score for students who are admitted?
A. Although the scores aren't declared but a percentile above 90-91% can
ensure you a call. Although at Fore, they even take your background and past
achievements in consideration. So sometimes even a score of 85% can give you a
call.
Q. What was your score?
A. 90% (percentile) in CAT and 96.8% (percentile) in XAT.
