Questions related to Pre-MBA Preparation
Q. How many months and
how many hours daily did you devote for preparation to entrance procedures?
A. I started preparing towards the end of August. I had joined a weekend
coaching class for the same which I sadly missed quite frequently due to work
constraints. I prepared for around an hour everyday.
Q. Did you take up some
coaching institute or you believed in self-study?
A. I joined the weekend batch of a coaching class.
Q. Can you tell us
which are your favorite books, books that you used for preparing for entrance,
books for self-development and books for pure relaxation?
A. I prepared mainly for quants. I used R. S. Agrawal for the same. I
kept up my reading of fiction and non-fiction apart from the daily dose of
newspapers.
Q. When did you start
your preparation?
A. Late August.
Q. What was your
experience with coaching? Some feedback about faculty, coaching material and
your overall experience with particular center?
A. The coaching at Career Launcher especially for working people was very
flexible. The faculty was good and the batches very convenient.
Q. What was your
strongest and weakest area while preparing for MBA coaching?
A. My strongest area was my verbal reasoning skills and excellent
vocabulary whereas my weakness was speed at arithmetical calculations - being
very used to calculators.
Q. Some tips which you
used for mastering Quant, RC, etc.
A. Quants was all about practice. Being an avid reader, RC and speed
reading was not really much of a problem. I had to, however, find time to
practice for Quants on a daily basis to keep up the flow.
Q. How much time did
you put for MBA preparation everyday? How did you manage this while working
full-time?
A. I could put in around only an hour daily since I was working and
commuting took up a large part of my time.
Q. Which all Exams and
B-schools you applied to?
A. I appeared for CAT and SNAP.
Q. Your present
B-school and course.
A. SIBM, Pune.
Q. What procedures your
school has for admission to its MBA program?
A. We had a Written Test (SNAP). After clearing the requisite cut-offs,
for SNAP, the GDPI calls are sent across to the shortlisted students. The
process after SNAP is subject to change every year. Last year, we had an Essay,
a Group Discussion, a Case Study, apart from the Personal Interview that
included a short Extempore.
Q. What is the range of
score for students who are admitted?
A. The SNAP score cut off last year for dual degree aspirants was 97.25,
and for Marcom, the specialization that I have taken, was 63. However, this year
onwards, the cut-offs for all specializations will be the same.
