In the school's own words...
Nottingham University Business School is a leading centre for management education in one of the most prominent and popular universities in the United Kingdom. The School is committed to sustaining its position as a top-ranked European business school, excellent in both research and teaching. Each of these areas is informed by the importance of demonstrating academic excellence and relevance to wider audiences.
Throughout its history, the Business School has been actively involved in research in the areas of social, environmental and ethical impact. It has appointed three chairs in the specialist areas of Business Ethics, CSR and Social Accounting and a wide range of other faculty members are also actively engaged in such research. In 2002, following a private sector donation of over $7 million, the University set up the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR) to develop its research and teaching in this area. The Centre has subsequently become one of the foremost centres for research, teaching and dialogue on CSR in Europe. Its success has been facilitated by a rich engagement with leading European networks, institutions, businesses, local and national authorities, as well as international organisations such as Business in the Community, the European Academy of Business in Society, the UN and the Academy of Management.
The Centre was developed as a result of the University and Business School vision to position itself regionally, internationally and thematically at the centre of CSR development. The Schools teaching strategy is to bring CSR education (including social, ethical, environmental, and sustainability issues) to mainstream undergraduate and postgraduate business learning and teaching. The School has also developed specialist postgraduate CSR education and training, including an MA in CSR and an MBA in CSR, the first MBA of its kind in Britain.
The MBA in CSR is a unique programme combining advanced teaching and learning in management with state of the art thinking in corporate social responsibility. This combination allows progressive learning at the leading edge of knowledge in management studies and socially responsible business. The MBA in CSR enables students to study organisations, including private, public, and not-for-profit organisations, their management, and the changing external environment in which they operate. The MBA also encourages students to critically evaluate the core business disciplines, while applying business ethics and corporate social responsibility issues across all management disciplines. This MBA is a dedicated programme for socially responsible business managers of the future. The School also offers a suite of modules to all full time and part time MBA students that address the social, environmental and ethical impact of business.
