In the school's own words...
Since its inception in 1968, the Asian Institute of Management adopted the
following mission: to develop competent, responsible managers for Asia. Its role
is to help provide the managerial component in the process of social, political,
technological and economic development. AIM believes that it has a responsibility
to develop socially responsible managers who possess integrity, honesty and high
ethical standards and who will try to humanize the corporation, understand the
ethical implications of every management decision, and feel a personal sense of
responsibility for their workers.
AIM is the acknowledged authority on Asian management systems, which it infuses
with a global perspective. AIM leads the regions socio-economic transformation by
offering unique educational opportunities and cross-cultural experiences to
citizens from developing and developed economies. The Institutes multinational
character encourages deep understanding of the cross-cultural issues in the region.
It instills in the students a sense of community and promotes a world-view that
prepares students for a dynamic alumni networking.
AIM has four schools namely: W.SyCip Graduate School of Business, the Center for
Development Management, the Asian Center for Entrepreneurship, and the Executive
Education and Lifelong Learning Center. To become more relevant to Asias
concerns, AIM expanded its scope of activities to include rural development
management and the management of government agencies and institutions, and of
other non-profit organizations. Transcending beyond the normal parameters of
commerce, AIM has involved itself in social development, corporate governance,
the humanities, and management of non-profit organizations not only
through its courses but also its centers of excellence: the AIM Policy Center,
the Gov. Jose B. Fernandez, Jr. Center for Banking and Finance, the Ramon V.
del Rosario, Sr. Center for Corporate Responsibility, AIM-Mirant Center for
Bridging Societal Divides, and the Hills Center for Governance. AIM also holds
the distinction of being the first graduate school of management in the world to be awarded an ISO 14001 Certification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) for its Environmental Management System. The institution-wide AIM EMS aims to increase environmental awareness, ensure productive use of natural, human, technological, and social resources, and provide a safe work environment. AIM is accredited by both AACSB and EFMD, making AIM one of the few schools to achieve dual accreditation. In 2001, AIM was honored with the 1st Beyond Grey Pinstripes Award for Business School Innovation in Social Impact Management. In 2002, AIM was selected by World Bank as its strategic partner in Asia with the establishment of the AIM-World Bank Global Distance Learning Center. This makes AIM the first private management institution in the world to partner with World Bank. AIM was also designated by the Asian Development Bank as a Center of Excellence, a partner in knowledge creation and management, and a collaborator in the task of delivering programs that cultivate progress in Asian societies. Also, AIM signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a strategic alliance with the United Nations Environment Programme-International Environment Technology Center (UNEP-ITC). The Alliance enables AIM to deliver training programs on environmental management to the Center's constituents.
