Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM)
The
objective of the full time PGDBM programme is to prepare students
for leadership positions by instilling in them a sense of academic
discipline, intellectual rigour, commitment to excellence, team
building skills and a never-say-die attitude.
The two-year full time PGDBM programme consists of six terms,
each approximately of three months duration.
The programme consists of 40 courses, 25 compulsory and 15 electives
of 3 credits each totalling 120 credits. Students are also required
to undertake a summer project and final dissertation.
Eligibility
The candidate should be a graduate in any discipline from a
recognized university and should have secured a minimum of 50%
marks in the aggregate.
Students completing their examinations by June 15, 2006 may
also apply.
Admission
Procedure
From the
academic year of 2005-2006 onwards, LIBA has been taking in
about 120 students from over the thousands that apply to the
PGDBM programme. The selection procedure consists of a written
examination (XAT), followed by a group discussion and a personal
interview. Students are selected on the basis of several criteria,
which includes their overall XAT score, academic performance
and performance in the group discussion and interview. Students
come from a wide array of scholastic disciplines, which includes
engineering, science, commerce, humanities, and liberal arts.
Selected candidates are a mix of fresh graduates as well as
those who have industry experience.
Post
Graduate diploma in Business Management (Part Time)
The
objective of the three-year part time PGDBM is to equip working
executives acquire managerial skills necessary to take up senior
management. The course is structured in such a way, that students
of the part time programme go through the same rigour as the
full time programme.
The
part time PGDBM programme, spread over three years, consists
of nine terms, each approximately of three months duration.
The classes are held from Monday through Friday (between 6.45
PM and 8.30 PM) so that students can attend classes without
any difficulty.
The
programme consists of 35 courses - 26 compulsory courses of
3 credits each and 9 electives of 4 credits each. Students are
also required to do a summer project at the end of the first
and second year respectively and submit a Masters level dissertation
during the last term of the third year. The credits earned during
the three years totals 120.
Eligibility
The
candidate should be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized
University or hold a professional qualification recognized as
equivalent to a Bachelors degree and should have secured a minimum
of 50% marks in the aggregate.
The
candidate should have had full time work experience in Business
/ Industry / Government for a minimum period of two years.
The
candidate should be employed at the time of applying for the
programme.
Admission
Procedure
The
admission procedure usually consists of a written test followed
by a group discussion and personal interview held at LIBA, Chennai.
The
LIBA Admission Test is of objective type and is designed to
evaluate the candidates aptitude in areas such as verbal and
quantitative skills, analytical reasoning and general knowledge.
Candidates
can either appear for the LIBA admission test or the Management
Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by AIMA. Candidates who opt for
the MAT, should attach a copy of the MAT score card along with
the filled in application form of LIBA.
Based
on the scores of the written test, short listed candidates will
be called for subsequent rounds of group discussion and personal
interview to be conducted at LIBA.
PhD
Programme
The
University of Madras has granted recognition to LIBA as a Centre
for conducting Research leading to Ph.D. Degree in Business
Administration. The uniqueness of the programme is that unlike
other major business schools who offer only a Fellow Programme,
LIBA offers a Ph.D. degree in affiliation with the University
of Madras. LIBA is the first b-school to be recognized by the
University of Madras to conduct Doctoral programmes in Business
Administration.
LIBA has seven full time doctoral guides in areas such as Finance,
Economics, Operations, Systems, Marketing, Human Resources and
General Management. LIBA invites applications from research
scholars who want to do their Ph.D. degree in the area of Business
Administration.

post graduates in Management or related disciplines are eligible

Admission
Procedure
Candidates selected
by LIBA and approved by the University of Madras will work at
the institute as Research Associates and will be granted a monthly
stipend during their course of study. Interested candidates
can obtain further information from the office to LIBA.
Executive
diploma courses
Apart
from the full time and part time PGDBM programmes, LIBA also
offers one year, part time executive programmes. These courses
are designed for working executives who want to hone their managerial
skills in their chosen area of profession. Courses are offered
in the broad areas of Financial Management, Human Resources
Management, Marketing Management and International Business.
The classes are held on weekdays (between 6.45 PM to 8.30 PM)
to facilitate students to attend class after their office hours.
The one-year Executive Diploma courses that LIBA currently

Executive Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Management
The
courses offered as part of each Diploma programme provide students
with a broad understanding of the various skills required in
their chosen area. Special care is taken to ensure that courses
impart students with the latest developments in their specialised
field. The programme is divided into two semesters and the total
credits earned are 24.
Eligibility
The
applicant must hold at least a Bachelor s degree in any discipline
from a recognised University or hold a professional qualification
recognised as equivalent to a Bachelor s degree.
Final
year students can also apply to the programme.
Admission
Procedure
Interested
candidates must obtain the application form available at the
Admissions office, LIBA upon payment of the prescribed fee.
Application must be made in the prescribed form and the same
should reach LIBA on or before the prescribed date. Applications
received after the prescribed date will not be entertained.
On
receipt of the applications, the admissions committee will make
a preliminary evaluation and those candidates found suitable
will be called for an interview at LIBA.
Short
listed candidates should appear for the interview on the date
and time specified and in case they are selected, pay the prescribed
fees to and submit the required documents to the college office.
Foreign Collaboration
The need for sensitivity
to other cultures, to be informed about businesses and business
practices in other countries and cultures and to broaden one's
perspective in order to become a successful manager/entrepreneur
is felt more today than ever before. Recognizing this need,
LIBA has entered into collaboration with foreign universities,
with a view to enriching and expanding the lives of students,
and to provide that "extra bit" to make it big in
the corporate world.
LIBA has entered into collaborations with Saint Joseph's University,
Philadelphia; Bordeaux Business School, Franc; Griffith University,
Australia and Ingolstadt School of Management, Germany.
Student Exchange
Programmes
Duration - Two to three students are selected
by LIBA with inputs from SJU to spend about 12 weeks at SJU.
The programme consists of 5-6 weeks of summer internship in
companies around Philadelphia and 6 weeks of summer classes
where they will take 2 courses of 3 credits each.
Expenses - Each student will pay the tuition
and academic fees to LIBA. Expenses relating to travel, boarding
and lodging, course material, medical insurance are borne by
them, while they are exempted from course fee at SJU.
For students from SJU, LIBA organizes programmes, which include
3 credit courses or a series of lectures on relevant topics
such as social marketing, emerging market trends etc. It also
contains a cultural component with one or two lectures on Indian
culture, visit to cultural centres etc.
Faculty
Exchange Programme
These
include institutional visits, guest lectures and staff exchanges.
The term of the exchange programme ranges from one year to 6-8
weeks. |
