The
Educational programmes offered by the IIMA for the development
of management are:
Post
Graduate Programme in management (PGP-Gen)
The
Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is among the oldest,
largest and most prestigious of the Institute's teaching programmes.
Ranked the best programme in the continent, and among the best
in the Asia-Pacific Region, the programme emphasizes innovative
problem solving, shared perspectives, applied management philosophy,
and group work.
The mission of the two-year Post-Graduate Programme in Management
(PGP) is to develop young men and women into competent professional
managers for any sector of organized activity. PGP specifically
focuses on:
Equipping
students with required conceptual and inter- personal skills
and social purpose for managerial decision making and implementation.
Encouraging
entrepreneurial capabilities in students to make them effective
change agents.
Nurturing
in students the capabilities of setting standards of excellence
in managerial life.
PGP,
is internationally recognized as equivalent to an MBA, is the
oldest, largest, and most prestigious of the Institute's teaching
programmes. IIMA graduates have worked at many levels in a wide
variety of Indian public and private sector corporations and
other organizations. Many have already attained top management
positions in Indian industry or have become entrepreneurs. Most
are serving in functional management positions.
Admission Procedure
Every
year, IIMA selects about 250 students from among the over 100,000
candidates who apply to the PGP. The admission process consists
of the nationally administered Common Admission Test (CAT),
and subsequent rounds of personal interviews and group discussions.
The students are selected on the basis of their CAT scores,
past academic performance and performance in the interviews
and group discussion. Selected students have scholastic achievements
in disciplines such as arts, commerce, science and professional
streams such as engineering, technology and medicine. Many of
them also have achievements in extra-curricular and organisational
activities. Some of the qualities that characterise past students
are high levels of initiative and energy, capacity for hard
work, strong task orientation, willingness to learn, and a temperament
suitable for teamwork. The PGP classes have had a mix of fresh
graduates and persons with work experience.
Eligibility (PGP-Gen)
Domestic
Candidates
The minimum eligibility criterion for admission to
PGP is: the candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree of any of
the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state
legislature in India or other educational institutions established
by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University
under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification
recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the
candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education
after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.
Candidates appearing for the final bachelor's degree / equivalent
qualification examination can also apply. Such candidates, if
selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally
only if they submit a certificate latest by June 30, 2006 from
the Principal/Registrar of their college/institute (issued on
or before June 30, 2006) stating that they have appeared for
the examinations (including practicals) in all the subjects
required for obtaining the bachelor's degree/ equivalent qualification.
Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the
mark sheet and a certificate of having passed the bachelor's
degree / equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate
issued by Principal/Registrar of their college/institute. The
deadline for submission of marksheet and the certificate is
December 31, 2006. Non-fulfilment of this condition will automatically
result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.
Open University graduates must show proof of minimum three years
after class twelve and a certificate from the university equivalent
to a bachelors degree.
Diplomas like Hotel Management, Fashion Technology are not eligible
unless equivalent certificates to a three year university degree
are provided.
Overseas
candidates
Overseas candidates seeking admission to the PGP (2006-08)
can take GMAT in the country of their residence and apply for
admission in the prescribed application form. The GMAT scorecard
(copy) must accompany the application form. The score should
not be older than two years as on December 31, 2005.
Indians resident outside India, and foreign nationals, fall
under the "Overseas Candidates" category. To qualify
as an Indian resident abroad, a candidate should be an Indian
who expects to live, work or study outside India for at least
12 months continuously as of December 31, 2005. Overseas candidates
who expect to be resident in India during the period July 1,
2005 to December 31, 2005, will, however, have to take the Institute's
Common Admission Test (CAT). The second stage of the admission
process, Group Discussion and Interview, will be held in India.
Candidates called for this stage will have to make their own
travel arrangements and produce evidence of having qualified
for the "Overseas Candidates" category.
Fess
and Expenses
Annual
expenses on tuition, library, computer, room, board, teaching
material, and other fees (excluding personal expenses on travel,
clothes and laundry) are about Rs. 1,76,000 at present for domestic
candidates.
The annual fee for Overseas Candidates is US$ 11,000. The fee
includes tuition, course material, and board and lodging. All
students are required to have a personal computer and a printer.
The Institute can also arrange for buying these locally. The
annual fee does not cover personal expenses such as travel,
clothes, stationery, and laundry.
Financial
Aid
It
is the endeavour of the IIMA that no student be denied opportunity
to pursue the PGP for want of adequate financial resources.
The IIMA has, therefore, instituted its own comprehensive Need-based
Scholarship Scheme to complement the scholarship schemes that
it operates with assistance from industry and government. The
IIMA�s Need-based Scholarships are awarded to needy students
from economically disadvantaged families.
The IIMA also operates its own scholarship / partial fee-waiver
scheme for all PGP students belonging to the Scheduled Castes
/ Scheduled Tribes. In addition, the Government of India Merit-cum-Means
scholarship is also available to PGP students, provided they
satisfy the merit and means criteria laid down by the Institute
/ Government of India. Educational loans are also now easily
available from Nationalized Banks.
Post
Graduate Programme in Agri-business Management (PGP-Agri)
IIMA
is one of the few management schools in the world, which offers
Post Graduate Programme in Agribusiness Management (PGP-ABM)
to prepare managers, business leaders and entrepreneurs in food
and agribusiness sector to respond to the challenges faced by
the sector. The institute's commitment and expertise in agribusiness
sector dates back from its inception when the institute had
accepted managerial issues related to undermanaged and socially
important sectors � particularly food and agriculture - as part
of its thrust area.
The Post-Graduate Programme in Agri-Business Management (PGP-ABM)
is a full-time two year residential programme specially designed
to prepare students for careers in management related to agriculture,
food, agri-business, rural and allied sectors of the economy.
The main objective of the programme is to develop young men
and women as competent professional managers for agriculture,
food, rural, and allied sectors. The programme caters to the
needs of enterprises serving these sectors, both domestic and
international.
Eligibility (PGP-Agri)
Candidates should fulfill any of the following:
1.�The
candidate must hold a Bachelor�s or Master�s Degree in Agriculture
Sciences or in Agriculture related disciplines, of any of the
Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state
legislature in India or other educational institutions established
by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University
under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification
recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The
Bachelor�s Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the
candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education
after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent
2.The
candidates who do not have formal education in Agriculture or
Agriculture related disciplines but have at least a Bachelor's
degree or equivalent qualifications in any other discipline
from a University or Institution as defined in the above paragraph
and a strong interest in Agriculture, Agro/Food Processing,
Rural and Allied Sectors are also eligible to apply. Such candidates,
with a strong interest in these sectors, must submit a special
form available with the PGP-ABM Office during October, 2005.
3.Candidates
appearing for the final examination of the degree can also apply.
If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme
provisionally, only if they submit a certificate latest by June

year, IIMA selects 30 students for the PGP-ABM. The admission
process consists of the nationally administered Common Admission
Test, candidate�s academic record, work experience, group discussion
and personal interview.
Fees and Expense
The
approximate yearly expenses, including board and lodge would
be around Rs.160,000/-.
Financial Assistance
It
is the endeavour of the Institute that no student should be
denied opportunity to pursue PGP-ABM at IIMA for want of adequate
financial resources.
Keeping this objective in view, IIMA has instituted a need-based
scholarship scheme from its own resources to help economically
weaker students. Under this scheme, every year a large number
of students of the programme would be provided scholarships
depending on the severity of the students� economic condition.
The scholarships will be determined based on the annual gross
family income, parental asset ownership, number of dependents
on the income etc.Commercial banks and financial institutions
provide educational loans to needy students.
Reservation of Seats for PGP and PGP-ABM
As
per the Government of India requirements 15% and 7�% of the
seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates
who meet IIMA�s admission requirements; 3% seats are reserved
for candidates with Disabilities (as per the Persons with Disabilities
Act, 1995) who meet IIMA�s admission requirements.
One
Year Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPX)
PGPX
is a full time residential programme for executives with substantial
work experience leading to a One Year Post Graduate Diploma
in Management.
The objective of the programme is to develop
bright, enthusiastic, and aspirational executives into management
leaders and change agents in the global arena.
Eligibility
Here
are the basic criteria for the programme starting April 2007:
(a) Bachelor�s Degree or equivalent in any
discipline
(b) Minimum Age: 27 years at the start of the
programme [born on or before March 31, 1980].
(c) Upper age limit: None
(d) GMAT (www.mba.com)
score obtained between April 1, 2003 and August 10, 2006.To
ensure that scores are sent directly to IIMA, please enter ETS
CODE: 7156.
Admission
Procedure
The
programme is open to executives of all nationalities
Executives
who have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline
and are 27 or above at the start of the programme may apply.
Corporate sponsorship is welcome but not essential. Participants
are selected through a rigorous admissions process that includes
GMAT (www.mba.com),
leadership profiling and personal interviews (either face to
face or via videoconference).
The application form for the second programme (2007-08) which
begins on April 1, 2007 will be available online from May 1,
2006. The deadline for receipt of applications is August 10,
2006 with GMAT (www.mba.com) score obtained between April 1,
2003 and August 10, 2006.To ensure that scores are sent directly
to IIMA, please enter ETS CODE: 7156. The admission process
will be completed by October 31, 2006.
Fees
and Expenses
The
programme fee is Rs 800,000 (approximately US$ 19,000) for a
single participant. This includes tuition, academic expenses
like programme material, library and network charges, room and
board. (Married participants staying in married accommodation
would have to pay the additional costs)
Fellow Programme in Management
The
Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is the doctoral programme
of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The objective
of the programme is to provide students with necessary skills
to identify and research complex issues in the field of management.
FPM seeks candidates with outstanding academic backgrounds,
intellectual curiosity and discipline needed to make scholarly
contribution.
IIMA�s doctoral programme provides strong opportunities for
inter-disciplinary education and research. The small entering
class ensures close interaction with the faculty, where students
can determine their own direction under the guidance of their
thesis advisory committee.

Eligibilty
Candidates
must possess one of the following qualifications to apply for
IIMA�s Doctoral Programme:
1.
A Master�s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 55 percent
marks after 10+2+3 years of formal education.
2. CA, ICWA, CS with a minimum of 55 percent
marks
3. A 4-year/ 8-semester Bachelor's degree with
at least 60 per cent marks or equivalent grade point average.
Those appearing for their final examinations in the respective
disciplines can also apply.
4.The Master�s degree or equivalent qualification/
Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification should be:
a) from any of the Universities incorporated
by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other
educational institutions established by an act of Parliament
or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of
UGC Act, 1956; or
b) recognized by the ministry of HRD, Government
of India, or
c) from an institution approved by AICTE.
Admission
Process for FPM
All
Indian Nationals whether resident in India or Abroad can take
CAT.If the candidate has taken CAT last year or the year before
he is eligible to apply. In that case mention the center code,
year of CAT examination and CAT registration number.

Marketing, Public Systems: Common Admission Test (CAT) of the

and Quantitative Methods Area GATE/GRE score (GATE/GRE taken

Candidates
residing outside India could choose to take any of the above
tests (depending on the area to which they are applying) or
write GMAT.
Faculty
Development Programme
The
Faculty Development Programme (FDP) is specially designed for
teachers, researchers, and trainers in HRD, training colleges
and industrial organizations for their management education
requirements. Since the first course offered in 1979, the programme
has been continuously modified and re-structured to address
new developmental needs of management educators. Every year
hundreds of sponsored participants enhance their skills and
update their pedagogical tools.
Selection
Criteria
Applications
will be rated on the basis of experience, qualification, age
and publications in their professional field. Essentially, candidates
are selected from colleges/institutes/ departments who are engaged
in teaching at post graduate level in management programmes.
Faculty who are teaching at undergraduate level are not preferred.
Management Development Programme
Practising
managers and administrators need to step aside from day to day
responsibilities to upgrade their knowledge and insights in
rapidly changing business environments. The executive education
programmes (MDPs) are carefully structured to reflect the most
relevant needs of industry. Each programme focuses on new developments
and latest trends in managerial practices in a specific area.
