By the My MBA Career Content Team Find Top MBA Degree Programs The recession has caused many MBAs and entrepreneurs to panic, and rightly so. However, there are some small businessmen and women who have decided to go through with their plans in spite of the economic crisis.
Tom Freiling quit his job last summer to start his own business and many people were baffled when they heard the news.
"I got furry eyebrows when I told people," he says.
The entrepreneur's business idea was to start an operation that would help churches and other religious organizations raise money. And while some of his friends feared the economic climate would prevent Freiling from finding success, he is now planning to hire additional staff because he expects sales of more than $1 million this year.
Freiling says sales are good because religious organizations need his services. "General giving is down, as well as giving for missions and special projects. This makes it especially difficult for churches because during a recession people turn to them for help."
