An American quick service restaurant (QSR) chain was recently approved for a listing on a government franchise directory and this has created opportunities for MBAs and entrepreneurs.
Long John Silver's (LJS) is a seafood QSR created in 1969 and based in Louisville, Kentucky. LJS will now be listed on the Small Business Administration's (SBA) Franchise Registry, which will make franchising the company to MBAs and entrepreneurs an easier process.
"It's no secret that the current economy and credit environment has suppressed franchise systems from meeting growth plans," said LJS president Ben Butler. "We want to give our franchisees every advantage to secure financing for a Long John Silver's restaurant. We believe approval on the SBA Registry is a major step in that effort."
The listing will allow MBAs, entrepreneurs and other small businessmen and women to obtain loans to open their own branches more quickly. Fewer than 30 percent of franchises can be found on the registry.
