By the My MBA Career Content Team Find Top MBA Degree Programs The results of a survey that was recently published suggest that many MBAs, entrepreneurs and small business owners use ratings websites for both personal and professional reasons.
LexisNexis, the well-known content archive, commissioned the 2009 Online Ratings Survey, which revealed that more than 90 percent of small business owners do indeed use ratings websites, but aren't sure if they're trustworthy.
"Review and ratings websites are being used to a greater extent than ever before to inform buying decisions," said Alfredo Sciascia, the president of LexisNexis. "Ratings offer consumers valuable insight into a wide range of goods and services, and they can be a powerful tool used by business owners to differentiate their goods and services from those offered by competitors."
These types of sites can be helpful when considering a purchase, as Sciascia said. However, 60 percent of the survey's respondents said ratings websites can be quite biased.
