By the My MBA Career Content Team Find Top MBA Degree Programs The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) recently told the House of Representatives that CPAs should be left to their own devices.
The House is exploring several bills that would modify the regulation of financial firms and might interfere with the activities of small businesses and community lenders. One of these details the creation of a Consumer Financial Protection Agency that would determine what sort of financial products should be available.
"The AICPA supports the goal of enhanced financial consumer protection, but we believe it is critical to consider the plan's effect on small business to ensure that it does not stifle the innovation, creativity and inventiveness of the American entrepreneur that has driven our economic engine," said Bob Harris of the AICPA.
Harris insists that CPAs are already regulated heavily and that if the House's actions prevent them from doing their jobs, it will be the consumer that suffers.
