""CEO Forum" is a lecture series organized by XLRI School of Business & Human Resources Jamshedpur to showcase its commitment towards providing the students with the best exposure to the practical world. The Speaker usually talks about the operations of his organization which is immensely valuable and inspirational for the entrepreneurial minds of the students. Describing the purpose of the CEO Forum, Fr. E. Abraham, director of XLRI, stated, "In this forum we invite innovative leaders from industry and social sectors to interact and share their experience with our students and faculty. We want the students to get exposed to a wide variety of role models, and become responsible citizens and managers." At the CEO Forum Dr. Harish Hande, Founder & MD, SELCO India said, "most initiatives in the social sector have failed due to fallacy that the poor can't afford and maintain solar technology. In its 16 years of existence, SELCO has proved that with a right combination of technology and micro-financing instruments, it is possible to reach the solar power to the poor at affordable price "on their doorsteps." Dr. Hande further emphasized that, "Judicious and innovative use of technology is the key to poverty alleviation. However, technology per se is not the solution. Rather, it has to be supported by customized micro-financial instrument so that it becomes affordable for the poor. SELCO, for instance, not only provides the solar panels and lamps, but also helps the customers avail micro-loans from financial institutions to buy them on installment. |
