The 2009 graduating class of Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad -ISB, ranked 15 in 2008 Global MBA
ISB always follows the Rolling Placement System, which usually spans over 2 months. This year, ISB, sensing that the economic downturn could affect students' placement, started placement procedure as early as November 2008.
Every year, ISB closes its placements by March end, holding its convocation ceremony in April (first week). But this year, only 57% of 2009 ISB Batch has been placed so far, forcing the institute to postpone its Convocation and extend the placement period.
Business Standard reports, "For the first time since its inception, the Indian School of Business (ISB) has extended its placement season indefinitely. Only 250 of the 440 students (around 57 per cent) in the class of 2009 have secured jobs in the placement drive that began in early January."
States the Business Standard report, "Many students graduating this April will still have access to ISB's resources and services over the next few months to find a job. The school will be in regular touch with students to help them find a suitable job that fits students' profiles."
Like all other top-rung institutes, ISB aims to find suitable placements for all students and is drawing support from its alumini network and regular recruiters. It has not put a definite time frame either for its placement process.
This crises is not exclusive for ISB, other reputed institutes are also facing the same, including IMT Ghaziabad, MDI Gurgaon, IMI Delhi, IIFT Delhi, JBIMS Mumbai, NMIMS Mumbai, etc., all are having extended placement season this year to find suitable spots for their students.
On the other hand, ISB is witnessing another new trend like the IIMs- more students showing preference to start their own ventures or join new organizations in order to grow with them. Rankings by Financial Times- has not been fully placed and the procedure has been extended.
