Dr. R. B. Lal, with brilliant academic excellence with administrative experience in handling teaching, research and training activities, is the new director of Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal.
With an M.Sc in Physics, Masters Degree in Forestry and Ph.D in Forestry he joined the Indian Forest Service in the year 1975. He has more than 33 years of experience of working both at execution and supervisory levels in the State Government of Manipur and Government of India which includes Chief Wildlife Warden, Government of Manipur; Director, Tropical Forest Research Institute (TFRI), Jabalpur; Deputy Director General (Administration), Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, (ICFRE) Dehradun; Inspector General of Forests (Wildlife) in the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India. Dr. Lal has experience of working with various international agencies and had been focal point for various International Conventions on Wildlife Conservation.
Specific areas of interest include Forest Resource Management, Tribal Development, Community Forestry, Watershed Management and Wildlife Management. He has authored many technical papers, books and technical bulletins.
Dr. Lal took over as Director, IIFM, Bhopal w.e.f. 3rd September, 2009.
