Programme in Management
The Programme
Doctoral level programme aims at training and
developing scholars for distinguished careers in teaching, training, research
and consulting in management. The programme aims to provide an integrated view
of management as a discipline while at the same time allowing students to focus
on specific functional areas of their choice.
It is a full time residential programme. The normal time span for completing the
requirements of the programme is four years. Accordingly, students are required
to stay on campus for four years. However, for certain categories, the
residential requirements of the last two years may be waived. If a student does
not complete his/her thesis work within the stipulated period, he/she is allowed
up to two more years for completion. During this period he/she may or may not
stay on campus.
The programme involves two years of course work followed by two years of
research work. The programme has the following requirements:

On successful completion of the course work,
comprehensive examination and dissertation, the student starts working on
his/her doctoral thesis.

Eligibility
The candidates for the programme must have had a
consistently good academic record with at least a IInd class Master's degree or
its equivalent in any discipline with at least 55% marks. Bachelors in
Engineering or Technology with a first class and a minimum of one year of work
experience are also eligible for admission. The candidates must also have scored
a minimum of 55% marks in all their public examinations starting with 10th
standard.
Age Limit: Candidates must not be more than 45 years as on 30th June
2002.
Procedure
Admission process consists of a written test
followed by a selection interview. The written test will be as follows:
Candidates with less than five years' work experience are required to take
Common Admission Test
(CAT) on December 9, 2001, which is common for admission to both
Post-Graduate as well Doctoral Programmes of all the IIMs. Candidates who have
already obtained a PGDM from any of the IIMs with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a
10-point scale or equivalent need not take CAT and can apply directly in the
prescribed FPM application form.
Or
Candidates with a minimum of five years' work experience as management
teachers/working executives are required to take a specially designed test to be
conducted by the Institute. However, they may, if they so desire, take CAT
instead of the special test. (Only one test would be permitted). The
short-listed candidates will be called for interview for the final selection.
NRIs and foreign candidates may be considered for direct admission based on
their GMAT scores (scores obtained on or after July 2000 will only be
considered). For the purpose of eligibility criteria for admission, work
experience of only full time executives or teachers in an organisation/institution
of repute will be considered.
Flexibility for Management Teachers and Working Executives
Both teachers and working executives will be allowed the flexibility to complete
the two years' course work in four time-slots of July- Dec/ Jan- June within a
total span of four years. These time-slots may have breaks in between. However,
they will be required to complete all the requirements of the fellow programme
within six years from the date of registration in the programme. PGDMs from IIMs
are exempted from the course work of the first year.
Financial Support
All FPM students will be provided with an attractive fellowship on monthly basis
for a maximum period of four years. The amount of fellowship will be declared at
the time of interview for the final selection. IIM Lucknow will take care of
their boarding and lodging expenses. Students will also not be required to pay
any fees. A contingency grant of Rs. 15,000/- per year will also be provided to
the fellow students.
NRIs and foreign candidates will be required to bear all the expenses including
the tuition fee.
nternational Exposure
The candidates will have opportunities to attend national and international
conferences and spend three to six months for fieldwork at collaborating
overseas Universities/ Institutions on a selective basis.
How to apply
Step 1: Obtain FPM Application Form on payment of Rs. 500/- through DD
drawn in favour of IIM Lucknow and payable at Lucknow from FPM Office, Indian
Institute of Management, Prabandh Nagar, Off Sitapur Road, Lucknow -226013 after
6th September 2001. Candidates applying through CAT will get FPM application
form free of cost. However, their request for application form should accompany
a photocopy of the CAT bulletin purchase receipt.
Step 2: Take the Common Admission Test on December 9, 2001 (for details
please see CAT advertisement in most of the leading newspapers during August 03,
2001) or specially designed test to be conducted by the Institute at its campus
on December 19, 2001 as the case may be.
