The Fellow Programme in
Management (FPM) is the doctoral programme of the Indian Institute of
Management, Ahmedabad. The objective of the programme is to provide students
with necessary skills to identify and research complex issues in the field of
management. FPM seeks candidates with outstanding academic backgrounds,
intellectual curiosity and discipline needed to make scholarly contribution.
The programme offers research
training in ten areas of specialization. The student becomes part of one
of these sentinel groups and acquires the fundamental theoretical knowledge and
practical aspects of the area. Students generally take four to five years to
complete their doctoral studies including two years of rigorous course work. The
FPM of IIMA is recognised as equivalent to Ph.D. in management by the Ministry
of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
IIMA's Doctoral Programme aims to
admit individuals with exceptional academic background, strong motivation and
discipline, and a potential to become excellent researchers at international
level. Applicants are evaluated on their past academic achievements, motivation
and preparation for the programme, letters of recommendation, scores on standard
tests, and a personal interview with the faculty.

Criteria
Candidates must possess one of
the following qualifications to apply for IIMA�s Doctoral Programme: -

A Master�s degree in any
discipline with a minimum of 55 percent marks after 10+2+3 years of formal
education.
OR
-
CA, ICWA, CS with a minimum
of 55 percent marks.
OR
The Master�s degree or equivalent
qualification/ Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification should be: -
a) from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state
legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of
Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act,
1956; or
b) recognized by the ministry of HRD, Government of India.
Financial
Aid
The fellowship covers all
academic expenses (consisting of tuition, computer, library, placement, and
alumni fees) and living expenses(comprising of medical insurance, boarding and
lodging.)
In addition, a student will be entitled to a monthly stipend of Rs. 12000
(including food allowances). The stipend may go up to Rs.15000 per month for
students showing exceptional performance. An additional allowance of Rs.50,000
is provided to enable students to purchase their own personal computer. The
Institute provides sufficient funds to meet contingency expenses to cover
research work.
How to
Apply
Interested candidates are
required to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) of IIMs or GMAT / GRE / GATE /
UGC JRF (Research) for some of the specific areas.

appeared in leading dailies around 16th July 2006. Application Forms for
admission to FPM could be obtained by post (FPM Office, IIM, Vastrapur,
Ahmedabad - 380015, Tele: 079 2632 4635) by sending a demand draft of Rs. 200/-
in favour of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, payable at Ahmedabad.
