The Sourashtra College, affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai was started by the Sourashtra College Council with donations from Philanthropists belonging to Sourashtra Community a linguistic minority. The College at its inception in the year 1967 was accommodated in a portion of the Sourashtra High School premises on Kamarajar Salai, Madurai-9 till 1972. Inspired by a "strong benevolence of Soul" the members of the Sourashtra College Council raised the magnificent buildings of the College on the slopes of Pasumalai Hill with a panoramic view of the Lord Muruga of Thirupparankundram Temple on Madurai � Vilacheri road. 6 Kms away from the Railway Junction & Bus Stand and the College has been functioning have since 1972 July with the introduction of undergraduate courses. Till then only Pre-University classes were conducted. The Campus provides an excellent atmosphere conducive to calm pursuit of knowledge and development of strong character.
