National Council for Cooperative Training has been constituted by the National Cooperative Union of India under its bye-laws with the concurrence of the Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation. The Council is responsible for organizing, directing, monitoring and evaluating the arrangements for cooperative training for the personnel working in the cooperative sector in India. The Council is managing countrywide training programmes through one National Institute called Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management for imparting training to senior personnel of cooperatives and 5 Regional Institutes of Cooperative Management and 14 Institutes of Cooperative Management spread all over the country for looking after training arrangements of middle level executives. One of these Institutes, known as Institute of Cooperative Management is located at Madurai in the state of Tamil Nadu. NCCT has been receiving 100% grants-in-aid from Government of India for functioning of the above 20 institutes.
