Spectacular Summer
Placements at TISS-Mumbai Spoil HRM & LR Students for Choice
The Summer Placement Process
for the junior batch of the Human Resources Management & Labour Relations
Programme, Batch 2007-09, was spectacular! For the biggest batch in the history
of the course so far - 63 students, of which 61 were part of the process
- the coming
summer months promise a great educational experience with the market leaders of
all sectors of the economy. Companies had begun their pre-placement talks for
the students back in August and with the sheer varieties of sectors and
companies that promised diverse learning, the students were spoiled for choice.
They could choose between the mature sectors of FMCG and Manufacturing, or the
dynamic Banking, Insurance and IT, or even sunrise sectors such as Pharma and
KPO.
Companies like
PricewaterhouseCooper, Hindustan Unilever, Marico, Wipro, Coca Cola, Fidelity,
Johnson & Johnson, Tata Sons, HSBC, Citibank, Cadbury, Lehman Brothers and BPCL,
have always been warmly appreciated by TISS and in turn the companies have shown
their preference for TISSians year after year, this year being no exception. The
campus also welcomed new recruiters this year such as Hewitt Consultancy,
Nestle, Citibank, Nokia, Colgate Palmolive, Dr. Reddy's, Pfizer, ICICI
Prudential, FedEx, Astra Zeneca, JP Morgan, Grow Talent and Country Wide
Finance. Highly respected companies like Great Place to Work also were part of
the pre-placement talks.
The process began on 25th October
and the students were continuously pumping adrenaline through Day 1 which ended
with placements for most of the batch. ITC, Wipro and Tata Sons made a
substantial number of offers and Microsoft, Deutsche Bank and Ernst & Young
picked up students in significant numbers, each taking four. TISS' very own
Centre for Social and Organizational Leadership too was a contender for the
process, managing to steal two students.
Stipends were more competitive
than those last year, increasing by approximately 25%. These averaged Rs. 25,000
for each month, for the two-month internship. Microsoft and Coca Cola offered
the highest stipend of Rs. 50,000 per month.
Of all the companies invited to
campus, only 33 recruiters could be accommodated. These 33 made 80 offers
of which 61 offers were accepted.
All's Well
That Ends Well
61 students can't wait for the
summer to come around. The two students who had opted out of the process have
their own learning curve mapped out with authoring and advertising on their
minds. The next month will be even more exciting at TISS as the placement
process of the senior batch begins. With 15 Pre-Placement Offers and a few
additional Pre-Placement Interviews in hand, the 42 seniors are already on a
euphoric high. Till then, the HRM & LR students will be busy with classes,
assignments and fieldwork, a concept that is a distinctive feature of the Tata
Institute of Social Sciences.
