Mind-boggling Number
of Slot 0 Offers Marks IIM-A Summer Placements 2008
Dispelling all anxieties and
rumors about reduced hiring due to the subprime crises or the expected recession
world-wide, top-notch firms from all over the world flocked to the Indian
Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, for the summer recruitment process for the
Batch of 2007-09.
The recruitment, scheduled to be divided among three slots from November 13th to
18th, saw all 263 students in the batch getting successfully placed in
their choice of sectors.
Mind-boggling Number of Offers on Slot 0
The faith placed by recruiters in
the superior quality of students at IIM Ahmedabad was evident by the fact that
more than half of the batch (134 offer acceptances) was placed on the
first day of placements. A total of 157 students had got the job of their choice
and had opted out of the placement process by the end of the much-coveted Slot
0. Last year, the same figure stood at 120. The number of Slot 0 firms increased
sharply from 25 last year to 36 this year.
Diversity
in Firms, Diversity in Batch
What has made these placements
truly remarkable is the diversity of the firms on all days of the event - even
the Slot 0 offers span across sectors. Although the top investment banks and
consulting firms continue to have the highest number of acceptances, the student
community got a much more diverse pool of firms and roles to choose from (Exhibit
1). Along with big players in the Private Equity domain, there were firms
like Google (offered a role in business development), Amazon (Logistics) - the
star recruiters in the IT/ITES domain; Chicago-based Starcom MediaVest Group, a
leading global marketing communications networks which came exclusively to IIM
Ahmedabad and gave international roles involving business development and
communication strategy.
