Esteemed Musician
Salil V. Bhatt Leaves the XIMBians Enchanted
The XIMB Chapter of SPIC MACAY
organized a classical music concert for the students and faculty of XIMB as part
of its drive to promote the culture and heritage of India. SPIC MACAY
(Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture
Amongst Youth) was started way back in 1979 by Dr. Kiran Seth, a
professor at IIT, Delhi. SPIC MACAY seeks to conserve and promote an
awareness of the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst the youth of
the country through focus on the classical arts, with their attendant legends,
rituals, mythology and philosophy, and to facilitate an awareness of their
deeper and subtler values. It has always been a voluntary organization.
Volunteers come from all walks of life with varied aspirations and skills. They
give some of their time to a cause which is for the larger good and outside of
their immediate self interest.
XIMB in its own effort to imbibe
in its students the cultural values and heritage of this great nation joined the
drive and became a partner in the process through starting an XIMB chapter of
SPIC MACAY. As part of this initiative, this classical concert was organized by
the combined effort of the SPIC MACAY coordinators and the students of XIMB. The
event aimed at celebrating the music of the esteemed musician, Salil V. Bhatt.
He represents the tenth generation of the famous Bhatt lineage, where music has
been flowing for more than five hundred years. He is the son of the legendary
slide player and India's GRAMMY AWARD winner Padmashree Pt. Vishwa Mohan
Bhatt.
Salil reflects the dynamic style
of rendering the classical nuances on the Mohan Veena in his concerts.
His style incorporates the authentic and systematic exposition of Classical
Indian Ragas and the embellishments of the World Music as well. He has been
giving solo concerts for more than 15 years and has performed all over the
country as well as abroad in USA, UK, UAE, and is a regular performer for prime
television channels.
Salil's music albums 'Legendary
Legacy', 'Revival of Gavti', 'In Harmony', 'Swar Shikhar', 'Revitalise', 'Sopaan',
'Slide to Freedom', 'Out of the Shadows', 'Carnatica's Veena Jugalbandi', etc.,
have been instant hits.
With such a great performer
unleashing his marvels, it was not a surprise that the music left everyone
enchanted. The students and the faculty alike were simply mesmerized. Once the
performance got over, the musician engaged the audience in a brief round of
questions and answers wherein the hugely interested audience came up with many
curious queries regarding the nuances of the performance, which Salil V. Bhatt
was more than happy to answer. Thus, this proved to be one of the most pleasing
evenings the students and faculty of XIMB ever experienced.
