Celebrates its First Convocation Day
The 23rd of February 2008 will be
marked as a golden day in the history of ISME, Bangalore. The day hosted
panel discussions and convocation ceremony for first passing out batch of ISME
at the Leela Palace, Bangalore.
The day started with registration
and welcome drinks for the guests and in-house faculty, management, students,
etc. Guests included various eminent personalities across the industry and
buearacracy. The chief guest was Mr. Giridhar Gayani, Chairman, Quality
Control Board, Government of India, and the guest of honour was
Justice N. Santosh Hedge of Lokayukta. The atmosphere with the
presence of such people made it such a revelation.
The ceremony started with
invocation by the students of ISME, which filled the audience with calm and
serenity. Invocation was followed by lighting of lamp by honorable guest of
honour. Then the audience was addressed by Mr. K. C. Garg, Chairman, ISME.
He talked about the history of the institute and the thought process involved
behind it. Then the Honorable Justice addressed the gathering. He started with
astonishing lines of a poem saying, "Whatever you be, what you do, be a human
first..." He stressed on the need of creating awareness in the future
generations of managers towards the responsibilities of each individual towards
the society he lives in. After the speech, many questions shot up, which were
satisfactorily answered. After a short tea break, two panel discussions
followed.
First panel discussion was
chaired by Prof. R. G. Tagat, Marketing Faculty, ISME, and the topic of
discussion was "Future of Indian Business Industry & Need for Talent
Management". The esteemed panelist were Prof. Mothiaya from NITTE
Group of Institutions, Mr. Chandran Natrajan from Infinite
Computer, Mr. Yakhob D. I. from Tata BP Solar BP, Mr.
Suresh Menon from Total Environment, Mr. Jones Joseph from
IMRB and repertoire was by Prof. Rajesh Madhavan, Finance Faculty at
ISME.
It was really an experience to
see such people discussing. The discussion stressed on the necessity of talent
management these days which include recognizing, attracting, selecting,
retaining, managing succession and changing organization culture. Emerging
areas of talent management are: Talent appreciation, potential enhancement,
acquisition of talent and knowledge management.
Second Panel discussion was
chaired by Prof. A. K. Chaudhuri from Indian Statistical Institute
and Prof. Athikal, Course Coordinator, ISME, was the repertoire for the
discussion. The topic of discussion was "Contributing Factors for Performance
of Organizations". The panelists were Mr. Dilip Shetty from HDFC,
Mr. Mohan Sharma from Aylus Network, Mr. K. P. Shetty from
City Info Services, Mr. P. Thiruvengadam from Deloitte,
Mr. N. K. Palta from HAL.
The discussion enlightened us
regarding superior performance of a particular organization in comparison to the
organizations within the same industry can be attributed to number of factors.
They laid emphasis on managerial experience vs. managerial proficiency, new
initiatives like BPR, six sigma, lean, etc., and also on performance matrix.
This gave the students an insight about the performance vs. command vs.
experience vs. initiatives.
The second panel discussion ended
up and lunch started soon after.
After lunch, the convocation was
called on with the permission of Chairman, ISME by Prof. R. G. Tagat.
During the course of the convocation ceremony, the PGPM Certificates were
awarded to the students of Batch 2007. The achievements and the future plans of
ISME included construction of an auditorium and introduction of new courses in
the field of IT Management, adding more number of classrooms and further
increasing the student strength to 120 students.
Further, Mr. Nitin Garg
Director, ISME congratulated all the students for their work towards building
the ISME family. The students of passing out batch took oath to abide by the
values and culture imbibed in them by ISME. He announced the launching of an
alumni website. The annual report by the Director was followed by the awarding
of PGPM Certificates, Black & Green Belt Six Sigma Certification to the students
along with certificates for different achievements in fields like best in
academics, president, general secretary, secretary of various clubs, campus
associate, etc., by the chief guest, Mr. Girdhar Gyani. This was followed by
address by the chief guest. In his speech, he congratulated the passing out
batch and discussed a lot about the quality aspects in the education system
these days. Further, Mrs. Pallavi Jain, Director Admissions, ISME gave a
word of thanks and congratulated the passing out batch. The program ended with
national anthem and with the permission of Chairman, ISME, the convocation was
closed.
This day was the first
convocation of ISME and the college aims to get much success in the years to
come.
