Young Indians (Yi),
MICA Chapter, Takes Women's Day to Villages
Young Indians (Yi), Ahmedabad
has uniquely celebrated this year's Women's Day in 3 villages - Shela,
Telav and Ghuma - on the 9th of March 2008. The celebration was conceptualized
and organized by the Yi members of the Mudra Institute
of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) 'Net', as these networks are called.
The net wishes to help the women and girls of these villages, located nearby the
institute, to celebrate the joy of womanhood on a day devoted entirely to them.
The event, sponsored jointly by Zydus Cadilla and Yi, Ahmedabad,
healthcare unit, was a success, said the organizers.
In Shela, 36 ladies with their
children participated, while in Ghuma, close to 50 women and 20 girls were
present, along with a large audience. In Telav, the turnout was 70 ladies and 30
girls participating and children numbered to around 150. The events were
conducted in schools and ashrams.
"This Woman's Day initiative was
really our way to thank the women of neighbouring villages for their hospitality
towards us. We hoped to fill one day in their life with carefree happiness, and
I think we succeeded in doing that," said Ajinkya Pawar, Yi Member, MICA net.
Set up in August 2007 as the
second net of Yi in Ahmedabad after the Indian Institute of Management, Yi, MICA
Net has taken great strides in the short time since it was set up, being awarded
the fifth best Yi Net amongst all Nets in India.
Prior to Women's day, Yi MICA has
been involved in holding children's drawing competitions in schools on the
occasion on Independence Day, a blood donation camp in association with Prathma
Blood Centre, and a de-worming drive. This women's day event, sponsored by Zydus
Cadilla, is another feather in the MICA Net's already crowded cap.
