IIM Calcutta to
Conduct Workshop on "Pollution Monitoring & Evaluation Systems Leading to Safer
Environment"
On January 29, 2008
Environment and Safety Monitoring
is a grave concern in almost every industrial sector. The governmental agency
has enforced laws to control and reduce pollution of air, water, and land
systems (EPA). However, the accident rates have created a concern for protection
of public spaces.
Analyzing the accident rates and
demand in various end-user segments, IIM Calcutta is conducting a One-Day
Workshop on "Pollution Monitoring & Evaluation Systems Leading to Safer
Environment" on January 29 at its campus in order to put forward a solution
to monitor air quality using wireless sensor network. Wireless mesh sensor
network offer powerful ways to monitor air quality, without the costs of major
new installations or laying wires.
The objective of this seminar is
to provide a common forum for the exchange of opinions of experts from various
industrial sectors on pollution monitoring and hazards caused by toxic gas
emissions.
In this seminar, IIM Calcutta
also aims to demonstrate the design and development of a sensor based
technology, developed with gas sensors, to continuously monitor harmful
effluents. The project titled "Pollution Monitoring & Evaluation System Using
Sensor Based Wireless Mesh Networks for the Protection Of Public Spaces" is
funded by Department of IT, Ministry of Communications & Information Technology.
