Introduction

Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF) was established in 1994 by the well known industrialist and philanthropist Dr. Karsanbhai K. Patel with a view to promote and support higher education in India.The first institution, Nirma Institute of Technology was established by the NERF in 1995 with a view to provide worldclass engineering education in Gujarat and to inculcate a spirit of social relevance among young students. The NIT has all major fields of engineering. It also conducts Masters in Computer Applications. Nirma Institute of Management  was established by the NERF in 1996. Nirma Institute of Diploma Studies was established by the NERF in 1997
.

Courses Offered

Masters in Business Administration: (MBA)

This is a two-year, Full-time Residential flagship programme of the Institute. The aim of the programme is to mould future managers. These managers contribute to the business community through their impeccable service and leadership. The specialisations offered are Marketing, Finance, Human Resource and Information Technology.
Number of Seats Available 120 ::
Fifteen percent of the intake is likely to be allocated for admissions to Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/Foreign Nationals and Non Resident Indians (NRIs).

Eligibility
A three-year bachelor�s degree (10+2+3) or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized University as eligible for Post-Graduate studies. Students appearing for the final examination of a Bachelor�s degree can also apply.

Admission Process
The application procedure for admission consists of two steps:

Written Test
Applicants for the full-time programme are required to appear for the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs, which will be held on November 20, 2005. Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/Non Resident Indians (NRIs) need not appear in CAT. However, they can be considered for admission on the basis of their GMAT Scores also (taken not earlier than July, 2005).

Application Form
Prospective candidates are required to fill in the application form of the Institute. To obtain the application form and prospectus, applicants should send a request along with a demand draft of Rs. 1000/- favoring "Institute of Management, Nirma Univeristy" payable at Ahmedabad, addressed to:

Selection Procedure
Candidates short-listed on the basis of their performance in the Common Admissions Test will be called for a group discussion and personal interview. The group discussion/personal interview will be held at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and New Delhi. The final selection to the programme would be based on the candidate's academic achievements, work experience, performance in the written test, group discussion and personal interview.

Tuition Fee Rs. 1,26,000/- (Rs. One Lakh Twenty Six Thousand Only) per annum

Tuition Fee

US$ 12,000 or equivalent in Indian Rupees for the entire programme
Hostel Fee Rs. 5,200/- per trimester
Activity Fee Rs. 11,000/- per annum
Internet Fee Rs. 5,000/- per annum
Examination Fee Rs. 1,800/- per annum

Masters in Business Administration: (Family Business)

Two-year, Full-Time Residential MBA-Family Business & Entrepreneurship
Number of Seats Available 60

The programme is spread over a period of two years and has six trimesters. The first three trimesters consist of compulsory foundation courses, while the other three trimesters consist of mostly elective courses. There will be a 10 week summer project in which the students will be required to work in an organisation on a real management problem. The summer project is scheduled after the third term. In the fifth/sixth trimester, the students will be required to work on a business plan for their businesses. They will be required to write a country report on the basis of their visit to a foreign country.

After going through this programme, the students will be able to:

  • Operate as an effective family business owner-manager,
  • Develop themselves as effective entrepreneurs,
  • Use relevant conceptual frameworks and best management practices,
  • Act as an entrepreneur and
  • Conduct themselves as socially responsible businessmen.

Eligibility
A three-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities. Candidates appearing in the final examination of a bachelor's degree can also apply. In addition, the applicants have to produce a certificate from their parents or in-laws that the applicant is in family business and will join his/her family business after the completion of the programme. The applicant has to provide information about his parents/in-laws business in documentary form.

Admission Process
The application procedure for admission consists of two steps:

Written Test
The applicants are required to appear for the written test to be conducted by the Institute of Management on April 15, 2006 at Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi.

Application Form
Prospective candidates are required to fill in the application form of the Institute. To obtain the application form and prospectus, applicants should send a request along with a demand draft for Rs. 500/- favouring Institute of Management, payable at Ahmedabad to:

Filled-In Application Form
The filled-in application form along with a processing fee of Rs. 1000/- should be received by our office latest by March 31, 2006.

The candidates can also download the application form from our website. In such case the filled-in application form should by an DD for Rs. 1500/- (Rs. 500/- towards application form fee and Rs. 1000/- towards processing fee.) drawn in favour of Institute of Management, Nirma University payable at Ahmedabad.

Selection Procedure

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)

In its quest to promote excellence in management education, the Institute launched the Doctoral Programme in Management (formerly titled as Fellow Programme in Management) in 1999. The primary objective to prepare young men and women for challenging opportunities in teaching, research, and consulting. The programme is designed to impart knowledge, develop skills, and create attitudes relevant to teaching, research and consulting. The programme requires coursework in general management as well as in the area of specialization, followed by a doctoral level dissertation.

Award of the Degree
After a student has sucessfully completed all the requirements of the programme, he/she will be awarded the 'Doctor of Philosophy in Management " degree by the Nirma University of Science and Technology

Financial Assistance
Doctoral students will be provided a stipend of Rs. 8,000/- per month in the first and second year and Rs. 9,000/- per month for the remaning period. The stipend will be renewed every year upto a maximum of four years subject to satisfactory performance of the student. The students will not be charged tuition fee but will have to pay for books, course materials, lodging, boarding, and other expenses. As part of their stipend, the doctoral students will be required to work on campus for about 20 hours per week on administrative and research assignments. Such assignments will help them become better teachers and researchers.

Programme Duration
There is no fixed duration for the programme due to its intrinsic nature requiring a variety of coursework and a doctoral level dissertation. However, we expect that it will take about four years to complete the programme.

Residential Programme
The students are required to stay in the Institute hostel. Under special circumstances this requirement may be relaxed. In case of married doctoral students, they may be permitted to stay outside the campus should they so desire. The Institute has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. Both the hostels are located on the campus.

Admission Procedure
Those aspiring to be admitted in the Doctoral programme must hold a Master's Degree or equivalent (such as PGDM) with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA. Candidates appearing for final examination can also apply, provided they satisfy the eligibility requirement by June 30, 2006.
Candidates can obtain application form in person or by mail by sending a draft/local cheque of Rs. 500/-favouring "Institute of Management, Nirma University" payable at Ahmedabad. Completed application forms should reach office by March 31, 2006 along with copies of all supporting documents. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their applications and supporting documents and those who are eligible will be called for a written test. The written test will be held at Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi in April 15, 2006. The short-listed candidates will then be called for personal interview at Ahmedabad in the last week April 2006.

Masters in Business Administration: (Three-year, Part-time Evening MBA)

The Master of Business Administration (Part-Time) is a three year evening programme is designed specially for working executives and entrepreneurs who aspire to have formal management education to equip them with modern managerial tools and techniques. Seven batches of the programme have already graduated and the eighth batch will be graduating in April 2006. The programme is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, Government of India.

Programme Design
The duration of the Programme is three academic years. Each academic year commences in June and ends in April. An academic year is divided into three terms of about twelve weeks each. The classes are scheduled in the evening from 07.00 p.m. and 10.00 p.m.

Eligibility
A three-year bachelor's degree (10+2+3) or its equivalent in any discipline from a statutory university.
A minimum of two years of post-bachelor's degree work experience at managerial level.

Fee Structure
Tuition Fee : Rs.45,000/- per annum
Study material cost, transportation cost, exmination fee, student activity fee, alumni fee, etc. will be charged separately. The Institute reserves the right to raise fee at any point of time.

Admission Procedure
Applicants are required to appear in a written test to be conducted on April 15, 2006 at the Institute. The short-listed candidates will be called for a personal interview for the final selection to be scheduled sometime in the first week of May 2006.

Last date of receiving completed and filled application forms: March 31, 2006.

Prospective candidates should send a Demand Draft of Rs.500/- favoring "Institute of Management, Nirma University" payable at Ahmedabad for the prospectus and application form.
